In 1996, the revolutionary Viscount was withdrawn passenger service. To commemorate the occasion, the Viscount 800 registered as G-APEY with British World Airways took off for a last trip on April 18, 1996 – 25 years ago – with several guests of honor on board, among them Sir Edward George, chief designer of the Viscount and Sir Peter Masefield, former CEO of British European Airways that was the first to introduce the Viscount into service back in 1953.
