Olympic Airways Douglas DC-6(B)

Olympic Airways introduced the four-engine Douglas DC-6 in 1958, using it for longer European services such as Athens–London via Rome and Paris. The type remained part of the airline’s fleet into the early 1970s and was retired in 1972 after about fourteen years of service, when it was replaced by Boeing 720 jets. The type was also used on Greek domestic routes, where the pressurized DC-6s stayed in service even after newer aircraft had begun arriving. SX-DAM was originally delivered to Swissair in 1953 and renamed "Isle of Lesvos" when she was sold to Olympic in 1962. After being retired in 1972 she was operated as a fire bomber in the Western United Stated until being broken up in 1997.
