French Air Force Boeing E-3F Sentry - 36th Airborne CCW - 90th Anniversary - 36-CB "Charognard"
The 36th Airborne Command and Control Wing operates all four E-3 Sentry Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) serving the French Air and Space Force. Each of these aircraft sport the traditional emblem of former French Air Force squadrons on their tails. The aircraft with the serial 36-CB is named in honor of BR 43 “Charognard” (“vulture”), one of the oldest French squadrons, formed back in 1918. This same aircraft also commemorates two anniversaries in one: In 2022, The Armee de l’Air not only celebrated the 90th anniversary of the 36th Wing, which was upgraded to wing-status in 1932 from an aerial observation group. The year 2022 was also the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the E-3 Sentry into French service.
