Finnish Air Force McDonnell Douglas F/A-18C Hornet - Fighter Squadron 11 (HävLLv 11), Rovaniemi - Hornet Demo Team
Of the 1,480 F/A-18 Hornets built, the vast majority were delivered to the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Export sales only accounted for a small percentage of the total number produced. Three European nations ordered and to this day still operate several of this highly-maneuverable multi-role combat aircraft: Switzerland, Spain, and Finland. The Nordic country took delivery of 64 Hornets, replacing MiG-21 and Saab Draken fighters. In 2023, Fighter Squadron 11 revealed this special livery at the Royal International Air Tattoo for its solo display in the UK and at other air shows that season. Finland’s Hornets are gradually to be replaced by the new F-35 Lightning over the next years.
