Finnair Sud Aviation Caravelle - OH-LEA
In 1955 - 70 years ago - the Caravelle by French manufacturer Sud Aviation took off on its maiden flight. It was one of the first jet-powered commercial aircraft for short and medium distances. The arrangement of the engines at the rear was new at the time - a concept that would later often be copied. Commemorating this anniversary, Herpa is offering a small series of Caravelle models as limited editions in the 1/500 scale. The series starts off with a Caravelle in the colors of Finnair. Finland’s Aviation Museum Society acquired the aircraft from Sweden in 2021. Formerly operated as SE-DAF “Sven Viking”, the aircraft had been parked at Arlanda Airport since 1974. In 2022, extensive work began to restore the aircraft and paint it in Finnair’s livery of the 1960s. After being refurbished on the interior as well, OH-LEA , as she is now registered, is on display and open to the public at Turku Airport.
