Renaissance Man’s AirlineWingsWorld | 14 April 2024There have always been a few outstanding and charismatic personalities who have had a lasting impact on their profession. This applies in aviation too. In the past it was managers such as the founder of Pan Am, Juan Trippe, or, in a similar role, Albert Plesman at KLM, and Freiherr von Gablenz from Lufthansa, but modern air transport definitely has its icons too. These include figures such as Freddie Laker, who introduced the first no-frills long-haul flights with Laker Airways, David Neeleman, founder and CEO of Brazil's Azul, and Richard Branson, whose global Virgin Group includes the airline Virgin Atlantic Airways and the aerospace company Virgin Galactic. Indeed, he has become one of the UK’s richest individuals, and is said to be worth more than four billion US dollars.>> Read more

Showtruck to your likingDER MASS:STAB | 20 March 2024In the first part of this small series, the DAF XG+ was successfully disassembled step by step into its individual parts. With a little patience and by following the proper sequence, any hobbyist should be able to dismantle the model without breaking the pins that make Herpa's successful plug-in construction method possible. Low costs have their price18 March 2024Initially founded in 1964 as Clipper Trucking Co, the company now known as Spirit Airlines developed into one of the shooting stars in the low-cost US airline sector after its shift from the road to the air. At Spirit, however, only the basic seat on a plane is cheap; each and every extra means a substantial mark-up. Nevertheless, the business model proved to be extremely successful. However, since the established airlines have been offering tickets at similar prices, the market for the US copy of Ryanair's low-cost air travel concept has become rather tight.>> Read more

Der „zweite“ Anfang29 January 2024Strictly speaking, the Herpa company has two beginnings. Firstly, on 9 March 1949, the "Wilhelm Hergenröther - Fabrikation Nürnberger Qualitätsspielwaren" company was officially registered as a manufacturer of toys and household objects. It began production in barracks in the destroyed city of Nuremberg, expanding to Beilngries facilities in the 1950s. A little later, Fritz Wagener founded a plastics company in Nuremberg in 1961, eventually taking over Herpa and developing it into the company it is today.>> Read more

A StatementDER MASS:STAB | 24 January 2024Not many accessories in the 1970s polarised popular opinion more than the vinyl roof.
